Powertrain Selection and Performance

The standard engine is a 188-horsepower 2.5L inline-4 that features direct injection and dual overhead camshafts. Owners of the SR VC-Turbo will have up to 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.0L engine at their command when 93-octane fuel is used. The EPA estimates excellent fuel economy with the 2.5L-equipped model achieving up to 39 highway MPG. Even the turbo version impresses with its 34 highway MPG.

Precise steering and a finely tuned chassis allow the car to change direction quickly and smoothly. Most Altima models also offer Nissan’s Intelligent AWD system for improved traction when the roads get slippery as a result of rain or ice.
